Visitors can test foods for protein, learn how much sugar is in certain drinks, test soil pH for planting vegetables, put together a map of Oregon agriculture and much, much more!

In a partnership with the National College of Natural Medicine, OMSI brings you Better Bites - a seasonal cooking series!
Come learn all about the rich, cultural history and science behind natural food dyes. Participants will explore how to create natural dyes using Oregon specific crops such as berries, hazelnuts, onion skins, and peppermint leaves. Cloth squares will be provided for participants to experiment with different dyes. Participants can bring their own shirt to dye as well.

Enjoy a small-plate, four-course meal with cooking demonstrations by Executive Sous Chef Chris Starkus of Urban Farmer and nutritional information from Dr. Julie Briley, ND of NCNM.

Test your mouth-mind connection. A program started by Ecotrust and Edible Portland, Blind-Tasting Bingo at OMSI is a game of sensory deprivation and heightened exploration. In the game, Bon Appetit Executive Chef, Ryan Morgan, will present 14 distinct bites that players taste with their eyes covered, seeking to identify what they taste on a bingo board that includes both correct and false answers. A few lucky winners will take home fun prizes!
