We will explore ways to capture creative images by using the camera on your phone with a microscope.  Visitors will be able to print one imagine to take home.  It is highly recommended to have taken OMSI's Beginner Microscopy lab experience.  Make sure to bring your phone to capture many pictures.

A New Bridge In Town

TriMet is building the first bridge over the Willamette River in 40 years. Learn how a cable-stayed bridge works and how engineers chose a bridge design that minimizes impacts to river habitat and river users. Lab time is supplemented with a walk outside to view nearby bridge construction from the river bank. One ticket per person.

Microscopy for Beginners

This lab is perfect for those interested in getting started in microscopy. Participants will get hands-on experience in the basics of using a compound light microscope. You will walk away with some simple steps to get you started making temporary slides of your own. One microscope per ticket, maximum two people per microscope.

Fabulous Fossils

Fabulous Fossils

Handle an assortment of rocks and fossils to determine what a fossil actually is. Help clean a real 65-million-year-old
Triceratops and other fossils using professional tools and techniques. Make a copy of a Velociraptor claw to take
home. Allergy note: claws are made of flour.

Soap Making

Make soap and discover both the reactions that go into its creation and why it has such amazing cleaning properties! Participants must wear clothing that completely covers their arms, legs, and feet (no sandals or open-toed shoes) as we will be working with caustic substances.

Explore the wonders of geology at the 63rd annual Agate & Mineral Show. Enjoy a wide array of beautiful cabochons (cut, shaped, and polished rocks) including agate, jasper, and obsidian from the Pacific Northwest. Presented by the Oregon Agate and Mineral Society, 30+ exhibits will be on display.
