Before GPS, explorers relied on the stars to help them find their way. Students will identify prominent constellations and discover how they are used for communication, navigation and timekeeping.
Activities include learning to read a star map, using angles to determine latitude and investigating how changing seasons affect the skies. Older students will experiment with quadrants and learn tricks for navigating under daytime and cloudy skies. A take-home star map is provided for future stargazing adventures. Available in formats for Grades 2-4 and 5-8.
