MAKER[Space] an Ongoing Experiment

Cha...cha...changes are afoot in the OMSI Vernier Technology Lab.

Why the Changes?

Thanks to a grant from the MacArthur Foundation and the Institute for Museum and Library Services, OMSI and Multnomah County Library just wrapped an in-depth planning and design process for the implementation of a hands-on Makerspace. You can read about it here. OMSI staff are still experimenting with the physical set-up and program offerings. The Vernier Technology Lab Maker[Space] is just one version.

What is a Makerspace?

Makerspaces are places for folks to design, prototype, build stuff and have a good time. They are a lot like OMSI's Mini Maker Faire. People who hang out at these places are known as Makers.

What can you do in our Maker[Space]?

Tons! Learn how to use our Makerbot Replicators and SD print an object of your own design. Dig through our bins brimming with cool materials, provided by neighborhood partner organization SCRAP, and participate in weekly projects like costume construction or boat design. If none of these suits you, take a class on Arduino Programming, or just sit a spell with our staff and learn a new twist on technology witht the Makey Makey.

Whatever your interests, come on in and check out the changes. Hopefully, you will be inspired to make.
