FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Picture 20,000 individual LED lights illuminating a tunnel that you can walk through. Now imagine being able to manipulate those lights to follow your every movement. This is the new exhibition, Playing with Light, opening at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Full-body interactive exhibits will encourage visitors to engage in an array of exciting and amazing light-, laser-, and lens-based experiences. You can freeze your shadows, mix colored lights, make a laser beam bounce down a stream of water, and more!

Visitors of all ages are also encouraged to tinker with technology-focused exhibit elements involving light islands, fiber-optics, and lenses. They can exercise their imagination by painting with light using special virtual paint brushes and by designing unique drawings on iPads that will project on the wall.

Playing With Light showcases both the science of light and its beauty,” shared Katie Forbes, Interim Director of Museum and Campus Engagement at OMSI. “Guests will have a blast using their creativity and imagination while experimenting with all the light and visualization experiences the exhibit has to offer.”

Playing with Light was created by Scitech in Perth, Australia and produced by Imagine Exhibitions.

“Imagine Exhibitions is proud to partner with Scitech to bring Playing with Light to OMSI,”  said Tom Zaller, CEO of Imagine Exhibitions. “Playing With Light is a beautiful and truly fun exhibition that encourages visitors to play while gaining a unique insight into current light technology.”

Playing With Light opens Saturday, May 17 2024, and runs through January 6, 2025. The exhibition is included with the cost of museum admission.  Learn more at https://omsi.edu/exhibits/playing-with-light.
