*With Leslie Moclock, Curator at the Rice NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals*

Doors Open at 5PM | $5 Suggested Donation

Everyone knows that dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago. But have you ever wondered how we figured out that number? Come discover the secrets of geochronology and learn how scientists determine the age of rocks and fossils. From maps and sledgehammers to radioactive crystals and cutting-edge electronics, this talk illuminates the tools and techniques used to investigate the history of our Earth.

Leslie Moclock is the curator at the Rice NW Museum of Rocks and Minerals in Hillsboro, OR. She has a MS in Geology from the University of California-Davis, where her master's research focused on unraveling the timing of fault motion in the Sierra Nevada foothills. She is experienced with zircon uranium/lead dating and mica argon-40/argon-39 dating techniques as well as geologic mapping and structural analysis. Now at the Rice Museum, she is passionate about interpreting science topics for the general public.
