Attractions

Exhibit Halls and Labs

All exhibit and lab areas are wheelchair accessible. While all exhibits and labs are visual, many have additional auditory or tactile components that invite visitor participation. Staff are available to assist visitors in all exhibit and lab areas.

Omnimax® Theater 503.797.4640

Wheelchair Access to Omnimax Theater:

  1. From the lobby, follow the hallway toward the OMSI Cafe to the elevator at your left.
  2. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor.
  3. Follow the hallway toward the restrooms. Signs are posted to direct visitors.

Please wait for an usher to escort you into the theater. The Omnimax Theater can accommodate 8 visitors with wheelchairs. Scripts of films available upon request.

Planetarium 503.797.4610

The Harry C. Kendall Planetarium can accommodate 4 visitors with wheelchairs. Scripts for presentations are available upon request.

Submarine 503.797.4624

Due to vertical, ladder emergency escape routes and the unique nature of the submarine, there is no access for visitors with wheelchairs or strollers beyond the public dock. A video tour is located inside the museum for all visitors.

Getting Here

Bus Routes

Several TriMet bus routes pass near OMSI. For the latest information about TriMet routes and schedules, please call TriMet customer service at 503.238.RIDE, or visit the TriMet website at www.trimet.org. You can use their online Trip Planner to find the best route from your location to OMSI, which is located at 1945 SE Water Ave in Portland.

Parking

There are 8 accessible parking spaces available including 2 van-accessible spaces. Visitors may be dropped off and picked up at the loading area in front of the museum's main entrance.

Entrance

The barrier-free entrance to OMSI is located at the far right hand side of the main entrance. This door is fully accessible with push button entry.

Aide Admission

If a visitor with a disability is accompanied by a professional aide, the aide's museum admission is free. One aide per visitor.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome throughout the entire museum.

Services

Star

Staff and volunteers are available throughout the museum to assist you. They can be identified by their OMSI photo ID badges.

Wheelchair service

Wheelchairs are available at the Information Desk near the main entrance on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge. A form of ID is required as a deposit.

Rest rooms

Rest Rooms and drinking fountains are located throughout the museum and are wheelchair accessible. Family rest rooms are available in the Discovery Space.

Elevators

Elevators are through the exhibit gate past the Science Store on the left, and at the end of Turbine Hall on the left.

Lockers

Lockers are available for storage under the escalator and to the right of the Membership Window for 50 cents

Star

Additional information such as exhibit teacher guides and film scripts are available by request at the Membership Window.

Phones

Pay Telephones are located:

  • across from the Science Store (TTY)
  • outside the museum near the Harry C. Kendall Planetarium
  • at the end of the Planetarium hallway
  • near the restrooms.
ATM

ATM is located down the OMNIMAX Theater hallway past the Science Store on the right.

First Aid

First Aid is located at the Front Desk, or ask any staff member for assistance.

Cafe

The OMSI Cafe is located on the first floor past the Changing Exhibits Hall. Accessible seating is available throughout the Cafe. Staff are available to assist visitors.

Star

The Science Store is located on the first floor near the main entrance. The Science Store is wheelchair accessible.
