Science is Power!
Engery Everywhere

OMSI and Ockley Green School in Portland partnered together for International Public Science Day 2002! We visited each other, and worked with our community partner, the Bonneville Power Administration, to spread education and understanding of energy conservation. One of the main activities we did was to take a quiz about how much energy we each use in our daily lives, and you can take that quiz too! Just click on What's your EQ at the top of the page! You can also check out ideas our visitors have sent us for energy conservation by clicking on Your Ideas.

This year's Public Science Day theme was Science is Power! Energy everywhere. We chose to focus on energy use and conservation because of the high stakes in our region. Oregon's power providers have needed to send energy to California during a season when California is usually sending power to us. Although the rolling blackouts have stopped for now, we will all benefit from a better understanding of energy use and conservation. Deregulation, increasing rates, and the demise of Enron keep this issue on the front page, and it continues to be important to our daily lives.

You can follow along in the classes we had, by clicking on Timeline, and see what the students worked on to help spread the word about conserving. In the For Teachers section, we even have lesson plans to help reproduce those classes in your school. And, finally, for more information about energy conservation refer to our For Teachers -> Links page.
