OMSI/WinterHaven Willamette Watershed Project

OMSI Public Science Day 2000 ActivityWinterHaven middle school teacher Wendy Archibald's science classes chose to focus their study on the Portland area's Willamette River watershed for Public Science Day 2000.

The students knew that water was a daily part of their lives and their environment, but they wanted to learn more about the natural and technological waterways in their area.

OMSI Educator Rick BrudzynskiTo enrich their knowledge of scientific concepts and analysis for watershed studies, Ms. Archibald and her students collaborated with Brenda Novak and Greg Dardis, educators in OMSI's Watershed Lab and Earth Sciences Hall, and Dr. Rick Brudzynski and Nina Molumby, educators in OMSI's Chemistry Lab.

Follow WinterHaven students' watershed explorations in OMSI's Watershed Lab or join in the students' environmental chemistry experiments in OMSI's Chemistry Lab.

Carrying their inquiry outside the classroom walls into the community, WinterHaven students and OMSI educators are also working with the nearby Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge to explore urban waterway habitats and water quality.
