Ninkasi Space Beer Dinner

Foodies and beer lovers, join us during World Space Week for another delicious dinner featuring Ninkasi’s second-edition of Ground Control, their bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout that was fermented with space-traveled yeast.

 

Enjoy a beer-pairing dinner created by Bon Appetit’s Executive Chef, Kit Zhu and hear from two Ninkasi experts, Ben Prescott, a Certified Cicerone and Ali Aasum, Communications Director.

 

Edible Cinema: Big Trouble in Little China

Edible Cinema is a unique way to experience a film: through aroma, texture and taste. Perfect for food and film lovers alike, this quarterly series combines good food with the fun of movie night as expert chefs curate a bite-sized tasting menu tailored to specific moments in the film.

Learn about Oregon specialty crops from local farms, CSA’s, cooking demonstrations and artisan vendors. There’s fun for the whole family, including kids activities and live entertainment. Come celebrate the harvest season at OMSI!

Learn about the science of entomophagy, and all of the positive impacts it can have on our nutrition and the environment! Visitors will have the chance to make their own cricket flour and taste of an assortment of different insects from around the world.

This month we are kicking off a berry-themed summer with a carbonation demonstration where visitors will make their own sodas using natural ingredients.  The owner of HOTLIPS will be here to help us discuss (and taste!) natural and healthier alternatives to traditional sodas.  You'll even get to try some carbonated berries and blood oranges!

Better Bites: Food As Medicine Everyday

Food as medicine has been a powerful approach to health and healing, intimately woven into naturopathic medical education for over a century.  Join Drs. Courtney Jackson and Julie Briley, naturopathic physicians at the National College of Natural Medicine and authors of the book, Food As Medicine Everyday: Reclaim Your Health With Whole Foods, as they discuss the impact of dietary choices on chronic disease. Learn about some foods that you can make at home to help reclaim your health.

With Lauren Chandler, owner of Lauren Chandler Cooks. Lauren teaches people how to turn the nutritional recommendations of their health care providers into tasty tangible results. Lauren is an adjunct faculty member at the National College of Natural Medicine, where she teaches culinary classes to future nutritionists and naturopathic doctors. She has an MSW and is a graduate of the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts.

 

Blind-Tasting Bingo

Test your mouth-mind connection. A program started by Ecotrust and Edible Portland, Blind-Tasting Bingo at OMSI is a game of sensory deprivation and heightened exploration. In the game, Bon Appetit Executive Chef, Ryan Morgan, will present 14 distinct bites that players taste with their eyes covered, seeking to identify what they taste on a bingo board that includes both correct and false answers. A few lucky winners will take home fun prizes!
