OMSI has been a hands-on science museum from the beginning, but it may surprise some people that we also feature collections! In fact OMSI houses over 30,000 pieces including natural history, ethnographic and historical objects. We also partner with other museums and institutions to bring their collections to the public.

FIRST Tech Challenge

Don't miss the action when high school robotics teams converge on OMSI for a day of mechanical madness at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) regional competition. Each team is given a kit of a LEGO NXT brain to design and build robots to compete in the challenge. Winners of the FTC regional competition will go to the state championships where they may qualify for the national competition.

Explore the wonders of geology at the 62nd annual Agate & Mineral Show. Enjoy a wide array of beautiful cabochons (cut, shaped, and polished rocks) including agate, jasper, and obsidian from the Pacific Northwest. Presented by the Oregon Agate and Mineral Society, 30+ exhibits will be on display.

Summer Solstice Celebration

On Saturday, June 21, astronomers will celebrate the beginning of summer with a free Star Party! Join us at Rooster Rock State Park and L.L. Stub Stewart State Park starting at 9:00 pm weather permitting. From beginners to experts of all ages, here's your opportunity to view the stars and other celestial objects up close and personal through telescope and binoculars. Viewing highlights include Saturn, the moon, and several clusters.

Astronomy Day Celebration

Astronomy Day wouldn't be complete without a free Star Party on Saturday, May 10 at Rooster Rock State Park and Stub Stewart State Park starting at 8:30 pm. From beginners to experts of all ages, here's your opportunity to view the stars and other celestial objects up close and personal through telescopes. Viewing highlights include Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, the waxing gibbous Moon, Beehive star cluster and more!

Vernal Equinox Celebration

(3/22/14) Tonight’s OMSI Star Party is GO! Come join the fun and enjoy the clear night sky! The weather forecast indicates average viewing and chilly sky for the OMSI Star Party this Saturday evening! Temperature will be in the 40s with moderate dew conditions. Should have decent looking sky for a rare star party in March. Please have warm clothes and good shoes for the viewing. Thanks, Jim Todd
