Summer Camps: Hancock Field Station
Science camps at Hancock Field Station offer a multitude outdoor experiences and opportunities for exploration and learning. Camps depart OMSI at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and return Friday at 4:30 p.m. Camps for grades 2-12 are available on a variety of themes: Wildlife, Survival, Paleontology and Astronomy. Below is the schedule of a typical day at Hancock.
6:30 a.m. - Optional Morning Walk 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast 9:00 a.m. - Field Study 1:00 p.m. - Rest Time 2:00 p.m. - Swimming 3:30 p.m. - Interest Groups 5:00 p.m. - Free Time 6:00 p.m. - Dinner 7:15 p.m. - Evening Activity 8:30 p.m. - Campfire 9:15 p.m. - Bedtime
Our experienced instructional staff come with a variety of backgrounds. Instructors all have bachelor’s degrees in the fields of science or education, and training in outdoors education and wilderness medicine. Counselors are all well trained and enthusiastic, and act as guides through the daily routine of camp and the spectacular explorations it offers.

Keep in mind that it will be cold at night, hot in the day and all participants are required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes during instructional programming.
Please write your name on everything. Lost and found items with names and phone numbers will be held either at Hancock or OMSI for two weeks following your program. Please call us immediately after your program to arrange for their return. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity after two weeks.
SLEEPING GEAR: ____ warm sleeping bag ____ pillow (optional) ____ pajamas/sleeping clothes CLOTHING: ____ 2 pairs of long pants ____ polypro or wool long underwear ____ 2 warm, long-sleeved sweaters/sweatshirts ____ 1 medium weight jacket ____ t-shirts and long-sleeved shirts ____ socks ____ rain jacket and pants (pants not required but good to have) ____ tennis shoes or broken-in hiking boots ____ hat with brim PERSONAL GEAR: ____ soap and container ____ toothbrush and toothpaste ____ wash cloth and towel ____ flashlight ____ sunscreen ____ lip balm with sunscreen ____ small daypack to carry lunch and field equipment ____ 2 water bottles (at least 1 qt. size) ____ sack lunch for the first day
