Parent Exhibit: Amazing Feats of Aging
Description: Learn about one of the major causes of aging—free-radical damage inside cells. An animated sequence from PBS’s Stealing Time video introduces this aging process. Then, play a simulated air hockey-type game where “free radical” balls travel along a track that represents a pathway inside a cell’s mitochondria. The balls pop off randomly into holes labeled “cell damage” or “cell repair.” Your goal is to minimize free-radical damage by using “anti-oxidant” air hoses to direct the “free radicals” to designated “repair holes” and away from the “damage holes.” (8-adult)
