Description: Cilia are not silly! This mechanical model of cilia in the bronchus utilizes large balls as models for particulates in the lungs. A Plexiglas panel indicates mucus, with a graphic of cilia behind the interactive. The text explains the function of cilia and what happens when cilia are damaged. Visitors place particulates on the mechanical cilia and turn the large knob, activating a coughing sound, moving the cilia and thus moving the particulates out of the bronchus.
