What does a naturalist do? What does an owl eat? Children discover answers to these questions and more as they practice science skills including observing, taking measurements, and investigating specimens. An owl pellet dissection is included and students take home their owl pellet artifacts.

A program started by Ecotrust and Edible Portland, Blind-Tasting Bingo at OMSI is a game of sensory deprivation and heightened exploration. In the game, Bon Appetit Executive Chef, Ryan Morgan, will present 14 distinct bites that players taste with their eyes covered, seeking to identify what they taste on a bingo board that includes both correct and false answers. A few lucky winners will take home fun prizes!

While dissecting squid, participants will practice observation skills and making hypotheses about the animal's unique adaptations. NOTE: Squid can cause allergic reactions in those with seafood and shellfish allergies. We will provide gloves and goggles, if needed.

Scientists in eastern Oregon are using industrial pasta and donut machines to turn the tide on a historically difficult restoration challenge to reseed the iconic sagebrush steppe after wildfires (which are burning hundreds of millions of acres each year in the past several years).
Who are the scientists that study insects, and how do they do it? What are some of the unique features of insects? In this basic introduction to insects, their bodies, and scientific investigation, students will meet live insects and explore the answers to these questions. Students will create and build an original insect to take home with them.
