Who are the scientists that study insects, and how do they do it? What are some of the unique features of insects? In this basic introduction to insects, their bodies, and scientific investigation, students will meet live insects and explore the answers to these questions. Students will create and build an original insect to take home with them.

Ever wonder what the difference is between a hybrid, heirloom and GMO plant? Why are some carrots purple? What’s a meyer lemon or a kalette? In this lab, we’ll explore questions around science and technology in the modern food world. We'll look at some of the technologies being developed right here in OREGON! Participants will experiment with some of these amazing technologies and bring home their own plant. Recommended for ages 8-14 with an adult and 14 and up without an adult.

Participants are led through the anatomy of the cow eye while finding out how this sensory organ allows us to see. This class is a follow-up to Squid Dissection. It is recommended that participants take the Squid Dissection Lab prior to Cow Eye Dissection.

We will explore ways to capture creative images by using the camera on your phone with a microscope. Visitors will be able to print one imagine to take home. It is highly recommended to have taken OMSI's Beginner Microscopy lab experience prior to this one. Make sure to bring your phone to capture many pictures.
