Paleo Lab Treasure: Thalattosaur

While Dinosaurs Unearthed is on exhibit this summer, you can find real dinosaurs and other prehistoric animal fossils and bones in OMSI's Paleontology Lab.

When Greg Carr started volunteering at OMSI in December 2012, he was part of a package deal. Greg followed his once-in-a-lifetime fossil discovery “Bernie” to the Paleontology Lab. What makes this jumbled collection of bones so special? These are the oldest bones ever found in Oregon.

25 Things You Didn't Know About OMSI: Part IV

While there’s plenty to see and do at the museum, there’s a lot that people don’t know and never see. Whether it’s a program you didn’t know existed or a fun piece of OMSI history, there are many stories to tell!

I Feel the Earth Move...

Living in the pacific northwest gives us some familiarity with earthquakes. You've probably felt one or two right? But what about those large and disastrous quakes, like the one that hit Japan a couple years ago, or the one that created the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004? We're lucky that most quakes in Oregon are fairly small-scale. California bears the brunt of earthquake-related damage on the west coast and even the Seattle region gets hit more often than Portland.

How we can be Clever Together

Clever Together opened this weekend in OMSI’s Earth Science Hall! When I first saw it, I thought “I need to bring every visiting friend to come see this!” The exhibit highlights so many sustainable practices and opportunities that are supported here in Portland. I realized when walking through the exhibit that these are all things that make me proud to live in this city.
