This summer, OMSI has hosted 32 bright high school students in our Rising Stars Program. Rising Stars provides volunteer opportunities for students ages 14-18 to gain valuable, hands-on experience working with museum visitors. During their 5-week session, Rising Stars attend a weekly class focusing on leadership and presentation skills, making science a hands-on topic, as well as professionalism and how to succeed in today's workplace. Students cultivate confidence as they utilize these skills in a variety of different workstations on the OMSI floor, earning 90 hours of community service to add to their resumes!
During this time Rising Stars collaborate with mentors and OMSI science educators to develop their own original science demo, which in turn they present to museum guests at the end of their end of session Demo Fair. This session, we are proud to see unique and impressive demos on topics including the local watershed, LED programming, liquid densities, convection, evolution and more!
If you enjoy hands-on science please consider supporting our teen Rising Stars volunteers and by visiting their Demo Fair
next Wednesday, July 24 in the Turbine Hall!
